Fabric Softeners and Stiff Towels

I haven’t used fabric softener in my washing for a while now, mainly because my skin is quite sensitive, so I wanted to reduce the amount of irritants it is exposed to (read this article about how fabric softener could be causing you grief).

I never really thought much of it, but did you know that it is common practice in some Eastern countries to avoid fabric softener, particularly in towels, because the stiffness of the towels acts as a skin polisher?! Some even rinse off their towels in salt water to make them extra stiff, for an extra good polish - kind of like dry body brushing.

I also find that soft towels do not dry me as well, but if you absolutely must have soft towels, you can avoid the chemical-filled fabric softeners and use about 1/4 cup of vinegar instead.
