Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic medicine technique where you swish oil around in your mouth.
You can use a variety of oils, such as sunflower or sesame oil, but I use coconut oil (this is because I already use it a lot in cooking, so there is no need for me to go out and buy another one).

Oil pulling has been claimed to cure over 30 illnesses, including tooth decay, gingivitis, mouth ulcers, headaches, asthma and sinus congestion - you can read more about that here and here

The benefits that I see when I oil pull are whiter teeth, reduced bad breath and clearing of the sinuses (quite often I will have to spit out phlegm or blow my nose after oil pulling).
The first time I tried oil pulling I took photos of my teeth because they can get quite yellow so I wanted to see if it made any difference - have a look for yourself...
This is my teeth day 1 - before oil pulling

This is my much whiter teeth on day 3
How do I oil pull?
Well I'm glad you asked... As soon as I wake up, so that I have an empty stomach, I get 1 tbsp. of oil and put it in my mouth, then I just swish it around for about 20 mins, spit it out and give my mouth a super good rinse and brush my teeth.
You might not be able to do 20 mins, some try with just 2 mins at first and work their way up.

Some people ask me what I do during that 20 mins or if I just sit there bored - well most of the time it will go like this...
Put oil in mouth -> tidy kitchen/do any left over dishes -> water garden -> make bed -> put any washing on if I am washing that day -> do devotionals/read Bible -> spit out oil -> rinse with water -> brush teeth

It is important to remember that mouth health is affected by our nutrition too - and you can learn more about that here.
